Along with the Ruins ‘Benchmark’ demo that we’re finalizing (have a few optimizations that we’re hoping to squeeze in), there are a few other goodies that will be released sooner than later to give everyone a sneak peak behind the scenes at what we’ve been working on for C:SO.
As some of you may be aware of, GameCore 2.0.5 introduced 2 new platforms for game distribution, the Mac OS and what we have dubbed ‘Web 3D’. While the Mac version is cool and all, we feel that the Web 3D platform has the potential to truly revolutionize how games are created and distributed.

So for the American’s in the audience (because Hulu is retarded that way), there is an extended preview of the Hurt Locker over on Hulu:
More precisely it’s the first 8 minutes of the movie, which if you didn’t see my earlier post about it, is about IED (bomb defusing) specialists in Iraq / Afghanistan. Crazy insane shit frankly. What these guys go through on a daily basis just about blows my mind.
Met a guy a few days ago, he’s a Vietnam vet, and his son just went into the Army as an IED specialist. Absolutely crazy bastard (the son for actually WANTING to do this), but you have to have the hugest respect for people that are making this kind of sacrifice on a daily basis. Let alone being a parent, knowing your son / daughters are out in this kind of mess on a daily basis.
Anyways, go watch the trailer (again, only if you live in the US because Hulu are a bunch of morons). It’s worth your while.

Ok, so I didn’t get the Ruins demo out the door, but over the past few days what I DID get done is recreating the C:SO project from scratch (and before you panic), essentially giving me a nice clean content directory that I will be migrating things into as necessary. My CSO project directory was becoming a bit of a mess with all of the test content, temp stuff, older stuff etc. So I have the new project directory setup with purely the menu / front end content so far.
I’ve been brainstorming pretty hard on the overall campaign & game progression and have a very good idea how it’s all going to flow now, and unfortunately it required a bit of a clean slate for me to begin to work from. It’s easy enough to migrate content into the project as necessary, but having a clean slate is nice to have. All of the old stuff starts to get in the way after a while and causes more problems than anything else.
Started working on the unit / team customization screens as well — basically the idea is that you’ll be able to customize your unit’s unique look & feel — from things like what kinds of armour your team uses to the style of camo patterns that your team has on their uniforms, insignia, that type of thing.

That’s what I get for mentioning anything anything remotely resembling a release date. Didn’t sleep at all last night and ended up hitting a wall mid-afternoon today after a bunch of meetings. Tomorrow is another crazy busy day, unfortunately NOT related to getting the Ruins demo out the door, but once the meetings are over, I’ll be packing up the installer and getting it posted. The game’s exported and ready to go, just have to get the installer and final testing done.
Valve time sucks. My apologies for the delay.
