So the crunch is on — now that I have the weapon browser nearly functional, next on my list is to get a ‘very’ basic version of the multiplayer operational so I can get a public release out the door.
My list of goals for the MP Test (which is my super-secret internal name for it):
– multiple maps (just to demonstrate map switching functionality)
– online profiles (configure different load out defaults via the content browser, use in game)
– online stats / achievements (in a very basic format)
– leaderboards
– global chat / friends lists
As you may guess, these are some things that we’re working on for GameCore (well, a few are ‘new’, most are already available), so I’m looking to create a demonstration game for these features.
That’s just the high-level stuff, as far as in-game functionality, what I’m aiming for:
– configurable weapons (via the modular weapon system)
– customizable loadout’s (pre-select / configure weapon customizations & options)
– choose from a couple of characters (full character customize system is still ‘in progress’ unfortunately)
– multiple teams / sides
– basic team deathmatch gameplay to start, capture the flag & objective — based gameplay is phase 2
As you can probably tell, I’m spending most of my time focusing on the customization aspects of the game. This is primarily because it’s the most ‘experimental’ of the features that I’m looking to add. The basics of getting the gameplay modes and so on implemented are ‘known quantities’ for the most part. That is, I know how they’ll be done, whereas new and/or experimental features are a bit of grey area, so it’s important that I get them figured out sooner rather than later.
So, yeah that’s my thoughts at this point. More later ;}
