Combat : Special Operations

Characters

The character creation process in C:SO will involve a combination of statistics, visuals and tactical decisions.

Statistics

Every soldier in the army has a unique ‘career path’ that they undertake — no one starts out as a special forces soldier, and the player is no different.  You begin the game in one of the primary Military Branches (Army, Navy, Airforce), and the character creation process walks you through the character’s career, up until the point where the game begins.

With each Career term (4 years), you may select customizations and different paths for your character.  For example, a young Marine recruit may elect to undergo specialty MOS (Military Occupational Specialty) training to become a sniper for example.  This MOS training is reflected in the character’s skillset for that term.

Over the course of several terms, the player will eventually have the opportunity to try out for a range of specialty training & units — Marine Force Recon for example, or possibly the Navy Seals.

Each Military Branch has their own MOS / Career paths, and how you pursue your career will affect how the character experiences and interacts with the gameworld.

Visuals

Visual customization is another major element of the character creation process.  This includes selecting & customizing your character’s appearance (face / hair / tattoo’s etc), but also the equipment and gear that they choose to take into the field with them.

Certain elements of a character’s Visual appearance are dynamic — for example, you can change the style of Fatigues that you are wearing depending upon the particular deployment that you are preparing for.

A number of elements of the character’s appearance will also have potential gameplay impact as well.  For example, if you choose to equip yourself with Heavy Tactical Armour, you may be well-protected, but you won’t be able to move as fast or be as flexible in combat.  The character may also tire faster than they would otherwise.   Another example is if you choose to forgo a rucksack, you may be restricted in the amount of ammunition that you can carry into the field.

Depending on the mission parameters and style, you can customize your appearance, loadout and weaponry appropriately.
